From Embers to Excellence: Interview with David Shar

About the Episode: David Shar is the founder of Illuminate PMC and creator of the FTF Burnout-Proof Culture Model. He is a keynote speaker, consultant, and trainer specializing in helping organizations improve their leadership and culture, combat burnout, and design meaningful work.

David combines decades of leadership experience with the latest psychological research to help you attract, retain, and motivate top talent. David holds his bachelor’s in human resource management from Colorado State University and his master’s in industrial / organizational psychology from the University of Maryland – College Park.

He is a current doctoral candidate in business psychology at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology where he is studying the interaction between meaningful work and burnout.

David tells me about his life growing up in Baltimore and how he believes his grandfather, a Holocaust survivor, helped shape who he is today. We talk about the meaning of life and how purpose is the balance between being and doing. We discuss the collective purpose of humankind.

While this description lends itself to being thought of as a weighty conversation, it is easy to follow and understand due in part to David’s ability to tell a good story that is both interesting and illustrative.

About From Embers to Excellence: The goal of any leader is to ensure the success of their people. It is who we believe ourselves to be, who we are at our core that we must strengthen in order to take on life’s obstacles. It is what fills our innermost sphere. It is what allows us to expand or dictates the contraction of our sphere of influence. It is what gives us strength when we fail and when we encounter the inevitable hardships of life. Your personal philosophy on life, your beliefs, are what shapes how you view yourself. Remember the Oracle at Delphi’s maxim, “Know Thyself.” Who are you and what do you stand for? What gives your life meaning? Every episode a proven leader is interviewed to uncover their personal experiences in leadership development, lessons learned, and failures that led to important growth. Podcast Episodes are published every week.
